The Passavant Area Hospital Board of Directors voted last night to proceed with the exploration of a future affiliation with Memorial Health System.

The vote was unanimous. The Board stressed that the sole commitment of Passavant Area Hospital has been, and will continue to be, to provide the best possible health care for Jacksonville and the surrounding area.

Passavant CEO Chester Wynn and Board Chair Jan Terry said the decision was especially timely, given the coming changes in the healthcare field. Wynn said Passavant remains financially strong. “A possible affiliation with another very strong provider like Memorial can add long term sustainability  as we strengthen our capacity to address the challenges of national healthcare reform.” Terry said the Board’s action comes after lengthy discussion, analysis and debate. “The goal of the Board is to not only maintain our services to this community, but to expand them to meet future needs.”

“Passavant remains committed to delivering the highest quality healthcare in an excellent working environment for employees and physicians,” said Wynn. Board Chair Terry reiterated the Hospital’s mission will remain the same––to provide excellent care with compassion and commitment.
