Congratulations to Jennifer Cors, Passavant Area Hospital’s latest Daisy Award Winner. Jennifer is a registered nurse in the Intensive Care/Coronary Care Unit. She is a two-time winner of the honor. Her first Daisy Award was in 2013.
Here’s her nomination from the grateful wife of a patient: “My husband was admitted through ER to the ICU uni. When I arrived at the hospital to visit him and to be there when the doctor made his rounds, I discovered my husband’s health had taken a turn for the worse and several nurses were in his room attending to him. Once they were able to get him settled his day nurse, Jen, came out to explain to me what was going on and what to expect. Throughout the day, my husband did not want anyone with him in his room with the exception of Jen.
He has since told me that there were times he would wake up and she would be in his room doing her charts, etc. She never left him or me alone or in the dark about the situation. She made him feel comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation and allowed me to feel at peace at not being able to help him.
One day close to the end of Jen’s shift, my husband took another turn for the worse. Jen did not hesitate but immediately called the doctor, got my husband stabilized and then came to tell me what was going on. She never left his side once she had updated me with his situation and plan of care. She remained by his bedside until he was taken to Air Evac to be transferred even though her shift was over. Jen is truly an Angel!”
“I was just helping the patient understand his condition. He was very scared, not knowing what was happening. I’ve had a similar situation, so I shared some of my experiences with him so he wouldn’t feel so alone,” said Jennifer.
Passavant partners with the Daisy Foundation to give the award each quarter to a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse who consistently demonstrates excellence through clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.
