The Passavant Area Hospital Foundation is the recipient of two gifts totaling over $4.5 million from the estate of Howard and Vera Million. The Millions, who had deep roots in Central Illinois, farmed their entire lives in Greene, Scott, and Morgan Counties. Mr. Million also was the founder and president of the former Roodhouse Savings and Loan Association.
“This gift is a reflection of Howard and Vera’s appreciation for the work and care that Passavant provides,” said Frank Cummings, Howard’s nephew. “Howard and Vera would be very proud and pleased to provide this gift. They both wanted to leave a legacy for healthcare and for education.”
The first gift, 320 acres of farmland, appraised at over $3.5 million, was donated to the Foundation last year. With the addition of the Million farmland, the Passavant Foundation is the owner or trust beneficiary of over 4,000 acres of farmland. The Foundation shares 423 acres with four local institutions. The Passavant Farms are managed by professional farm managers with oversight by the Passavant Foundation Farm Advisory Committee. Annual income from the Passavant Farms, as directed by the donor, is for greatest need as determined by the Foundation, nursing scholarships, or patient financial assistance.
The second gift, $1 million, is designated for Passavant Area Hospital’s new inpatient psychiatric unit. Construction of the psychiatric unit is set to start soon, with an opening date slated for summer 2016. The unit, located on the hospital’s third floor, will be an inpatient psychiatric facility for adults 18 and older.
“This gift from the Millions will transform great patient care and assist the Hospital to advance healthcare services. We are so grateful to the Millions for their generous gift,” says Pam Martin, Executive Director of the Passavant Foundation.
The Passavant Area Hospital Foundation serves to connect the Hospital with donors and to secure funding for mission-critical priorities. The Foundation is building a strong community tradition for financial support to meet local healthcare needs.
