Repeat Winners at Passavant-Gatorade 5K and 10K

Jacob Covell, Kelly Vandermaiden, Henry Janssen and Tracy Dowell were the first place overall winners at this morning’s 25th Annual Passavant-Gatorade 5K and 10K Race at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois. This is the second year in a row that Covell and Vandermaiden finished first in the 5K. Covell’s winning time in the male division was 17 minutes, 20 seconds, bettering last year’s mark by 30 seconds. Vandermaiden improved her mark by 90 seconds in the female division by finishing at 19 minutes, 42 seconds. Janssen captured first overall in the men’s 10K category with a time of 36 minutes, 24 seconds. Dowell was first overall in the women’s 10K in 45 minutes, 30 seconds. Awards were also distributed to first, second, and third place finishers, male and female, in 14 age categories. Three hundred sixty-eight runners competed in this morning races through Jacksonville’s west side. The 2017 beneficiary is the Jacksonville Saints Special Olympics team.
