Congratulations to Betsy Birdsley, ICCU, our latest recipient of the Daisy Award. Here’s her nomination from a grateful patient’s family:

“Betsy 1” has been our Mom’s caregiver on several occasions over the past 4 years. She has always shown such compassion and care to our Mom, as well as us. Our Mom entered the ICU unit for her final time in October. She was in her final stage of pulmonary fibrosis. Betsy was always attentive to her needs. She strived to keep her comfortable and peaceful during her struggle to breathe. Betsy also advised us on what to expect in these final days.

My Mom was moved to third floor for hospice and Betsy even came to visit us and to share her love and concern for Mom. She touched Mom and us by her exceptional skills as a nurse and also the compassion of a friend. Betsy is one of a kind!

Passavant partners with the Daisy (Disease Attacking the Immune System) Foundation ( to recognize a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse who consistently demonstrates excellence through clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.

One winner is selected each quarter. Patients, visitors, co-workers, and physicians may nominate. Nomination forms are available on each nursing unit. Nominations may be submitted to the Nursing Administration Department.
