Passavant Foundation Receives $12,500 Gift From Mia Ware Foundation
The Passavant Area Hospital Foundation is the recipient of a $12,500 gift from the Mia Ware Foundation, according to Pam Martin, executive director of the Foundation. The gift has been used to add the Smart Curve technology to the Imaging Services department.
“Smart Curve changes the flat surface of the exam paddle to a cylinder shape to conform to a woman’s breast,” said Amanda Vortman, RT(R)(M), lead mammography technician. “The curve helps to distribute pressure evenly. The technician may then increase compression, without extra pain to the patient, to achieve an even better image.”
The Mia Ware Foundation has previously partnered with Passavant to improve mammography technology and services. In 2015, the Mia Ware Foundation gave a $100,000 gift to assist in the purchase of the 3D tomosynthesis mammography unit. In addition, the Mia Ware Foundation each year provides screening mammograms to patients in the Passavant service area who cannot afford the screening.
“The Mia Ware Foundation is committed to early cancer detection and to improving outcomes for patients in the Passavant service area,” said Martin.
